CurriculumWhat to expect
So what can you expect from Laurus Ryecroft?
Opening in a brand-new building offered us the chance to work with architects to plan exactly the right learning environment to provide a curriculum that delivers our vision:
‘Every student, regardless of background or circumstance, to achieve the grades and develop the qualities which will open the door to the future of their choice.’
Laurus Ryecroft will provide an excellent and rounded education for all of its students, regardless of their individual backgrounds, preparing them well for their future careers.
Our curriculum will ensure that every student recognises what it takes to succeed, sets aspirational goals and works hard to achieve them with the support of a highly qualified and dedicated team of education professionals. It will be shaped by the students as it responds to their individual needs and underpinned by the Cornerstones of the Laurus Trust: Academic Aspiration, Leadership and Service, Competition and Physical Endeavour and Culture, Creativity and Rhetoric.
We operate a one week, 28 lesson, timetable cycle. All lessons are 1 hour duration.
Students will also attend a minimum of 2 hours of electives each week.
Upon entry into Year 7, students are placed into one of 6 Personal Tutor Groups. These are divided into 2 bands and Modern Foreign Languages (MFL) are organised within these bands. Groups are based on attainment and are informed by National Curriculum tests and our own internal assessments. These arrangements may change as each student progresses through the Key Stage.
Humanities subjects, Art, Music, Drama, PE, Computing, Applied Science and Science are taught in mixed ability groups. English is taught in ability sets and Mathematics in mixed groups.
All subjects follow the relevant national curriculum programme of study. For more information,
