Students shine in regional heats of Great Debate
Last week, three students from Laurus Ryecroft headed to King’s school in Macclesfield to compete in the northern heat of the Historical Association‘s Great Debate.
The Great Debate is an annual public-speaking competition for students aged 16-19.
Amy, Meera and Khadija were tasked with answering the question: ‘Why does History matter to me?’
This comes after a brilliant performance at the Laurus Trust’s own Great Debate last year, which saw Meera taking second place overall!
Up against students from Independent Schools and Sixth Forms across the northwest, the three girls shone.
Striking the right balance between analytical historical argument, powerful rhetorical devices and engaging personal testimony, all three speeches wowed the judges.
We are delighted to share that Khadija won the regional debate and will be heading to the national final at Windsor Castle in March!
