On Thursday May 14th, a group of 10 of our Year 7 girls had the exciting opportunity to represent the school at the Lancashire Cricket Foundation’s Spirit of Cricket Festival, held at the iconic Emirates Old Trafford.
From the moment they stepped onto the pitch, the girls were outstanding. They performed brilliantly across every game and activity, showing real confidence and determination, and in many cases, dominating their matches. Just as importantly, they demonstrated exceptional sportsmanship throughout the day.
The festival provided a fantastic opportunity for the students to develop their skills and deepen their understanding of cricket, all within a truly special setting. Playing at a professional ground is something most young players only ever dream about, and the girls embraced every moment of the experience.
A real highlight of the day was the chance to meet a professional player from the Lancashire Women’s team, as well as Lanky, Lancashire Cricket Club’s much-loved mascot. These moments made the day even more memorable and inspiring for the students.
In the lead-up to the trip, the girls were reminded just how unique this opportunity was. Access to Emirates Old Trafford is incredibly rare, and being selected alongside just 18 other schools from across the region to play on the ground made the experience even more special.
We would also like to recognise the fantastic support behind the scenes from staff, whose efforts helped make this opportunity possible. It was a truly valuable experience for our students, one that will hopefully inspire even more young girls to get involved in cricket.
It’s safe to say that the future of girls’ cricket at Ryecroft is looking incredibly bright!
