Laurus Ryecroft’s Year 9 football team had the incredible opportunity of visiting St George’s Park, the FA’s National Football Centre, this week.

The students enjoyed an experience like no other as they spent the day at the training facilities in Burton-upon-Trent used by the England football team, following the typical preparations undertaken by their sporting heroes. From training to recovery and everything in between, the boys had an action-packed day.

They took part in a complete warm-session, with use of the centre’s bespoke running track, followed by time on the 3G pitch with a professional coach. They learned about correct posture, dynamic movement and good body control before putting their newly honed skills into practice by playing a match. Their session was completed with time in the hydrotherapy room, focusing on the importance of stability and recovery.

An amazing time was had by all and was made possible thanks to our Director of PE, Mr Haslam, the Inspire Sports Programme and ex-Manchester City footballer Paul Dickov, who is Ambassador and Head of Sporting Excellence for the Laurus Trust.

Thank you to everyone involved. The students had a superb day and it’s certainly one they won’t ever forget.
