Moving to
Secondary School

While we are planning for a full school return please note that due to the evolving situation surrounding the coronavirus pandemic arrangements may be subject to change. The school is following advice from the Department for Education and parents/carers will be notified of any alterations as soon as possible.

I would like to extend a very warm welcome to all the students who will be starting at Laurus Ryecroft in September. We want to reassure you that the transition process from Year 6 into Year 7 at Laurus Ryecroft is something we take very seriously. We are keen to make this process as smooth as possible so we plan to hold some induction events in July for you and your child so you can hear more information about the school. In the meantime, we hope you find the video and information below useful. Until then, we would like to reiterate our excitement for the years ahead and welcome you to Laurus Ryecroft.

– Mr M Vevers, Head of School

The Laurus Trust is a multi-academy trust with Ofsted-outstanding Cheadle Hulme High School at its centre. Leading Wilmslow primary school Gorsey Bank joined the Trust in 2016 and since then four new schools have been built and opened by the Laurus Trust: Laurus Cheadle Hulme, Laurus Ryecroft, Didsbury High School and Cheadle Hulme Primary School and Nursery. In 2019 the Trust was delighted to welcome Hazel Grove High School into the Laurus family which also includes the Ofsted-outstanding Altius Alliance teacher training facility.

The Laurus Trust’s vision is for every student, regardless of background or circumstance, to be inspired, to thrive in all environments, to recognise what it takes to succeed, to set aspirational goals and to work hard to achieve them.

Together with an unashamedly academic approach to education, this vision spans all areas of the Trust and is underpinned by four key cornerstones. These are Academic Aspiration– we want our students to be curious and develop a thirst for knowledge; Leadership and Service– we place great importance on both leadership and participation and encourage students to take on roles of responsibility; Competition and Physical Endeavour– we want students to approach competition with optimism and vitality; Culture, Creativity and Rhetoric– alongside academic success, we passionately believe in the importance of education in its broadest sense and we ensure the fullest participation in art, music and drama.

Our outstanding teachers have high expectations of all students, from our youngest reception pupils to our sixth formers, and our young people, including those who have special educational needs and/or disabilities or who are supported by Pupil Premium, make rapid and sustained progress. Indeed, we believe that socially disadvantaged students should receive the same education as those in the best private schools and our curriculum structure is based on students developing a core body of knowledge.

In this positive learning environment students’ attitudes to learning are exemplary. Staff and students are unreservedly positive about both behaviour and safety.

By taking advantage of everything a Laurus school can offer our young people we aim to ensure that they can all open the door to the future of their choice.
