The Summer Term has been one full of excitement for Laurus Ryecroft! As we reach the end of what has been a fantastic year, we would like to reflect on some of the highlights from the final term before the Summer Holidays…

An unforgettable first production with Oliver! Jr.

Audiences were blown away by the students’ Oliver! Jr production at the end of June! All 3 nights of the show were fantastic and we could not be more proud of the cast and crew for making Laurus Ryecroft’s first ever production unforgettable! We appreciate all of the positive feedback from parents and carers on our Facebook page, it is great to see the talent of our students be recognised and celebrated!

First ever whole school Sports Day

At the end of June, it was LR’s first ever whole school Sports Day. It was fantastic to see everyone taking part and rooting for their Houses. Every participant gave it their all, but there had to be a winner…

As announced at the Champions House Assembly on the last day of term, our winning House is Magnus! Congratulations!

Year 8 team win Manchester United Emerging Talent Tournament

In June, the Year 8 boys football team took home the victory in the Manchester United Emerging Talent 7v7 Regional Finals Tournament! At the first stage of the tournament, 150+ schools had entered. Impressively, both Laurus Ryecroft and Didsbury High School’s Year 8 teams made it to the finals.

The finals, which took place at Carrington, saw 8 teams battle it out to be crowned the overall champions. Winning four games and drawing three, LR’s team won the cup, scoring 9 times with only one conceded goal in the whole tournament! Well done to the boys for their stellar performance, keep it up!

Express Yourself: First Dance Showcase

Laurus Ryecroft’s first ever Dance Showcase took place at the end of May! Directed by Miss Millin, Express Yourself was a showcase of the amazing talent across the school. Students worked extremely hard choreographing and rehearsing their routines, we are incredibly proud of them for putting on a brilliant show!

Year 10 visit to University of Manchester

In May, some students from Year 10 went on a grand tour of the University of Manchester as part of a campaign to support students who would be the first in their family to go to university. They got a taste of university life, meeting University Ambassadors and listening to university lecturers discuss subjects such as Philosophy and Psychology. The day was very insightful and gave students a lot of food for thought!

Spelling Bee Victory

The Trust-wide Spelling Bee finals were held at the end of May. It was a day of friendly but tough competition as students from 5 schools went head to head to make it to the top. The day ended in victory for students from Laurus Ryecroft! Congratulations to the spelling bees – we bet you’re buzzing!

Student Ambassadors make their mark

In May, two groups of student ambassadors were hard at work.

The anti-bullying ambassadors took part in the Diana award’s anti-bullying programme, building the skills and confidence to address different situations both online and offline. The training they had helped them to build their own anti-bullying campaign to deliver here at Laurus Ryecroft.

Our computing ambassadors took a visit to Aldwyn Primary School to teach year 6 students about online safety. Delivering presentations and leading workshops, the computing ambassadors were a credit to our school and provided a lot of useful information to the pupils they taught.

Well done to all our ambassadors for leading by example, we are inspired by your commitment and passion for the work you do!

We hope you all have a fun and relaxing summer, you have all worked extremely hard this year and achieved so much. We look forward to welcoming you back next year and can’t wait to see what is to come, but for now, enjoy your well-deserved break!
