During National Careers Week, students in Year 10 took part in the annual ‘Learn to Earn’ workshop delivered by Young Enterprise. This employer-led programme offered a dynamic mix of structured activities designed to develop essential workplace skills, broaden students’ understanding of employment pathways, and build the confidence needed to succeed in the modern world of work. Through interactive discussions, team challenges and scenario-based tasks, students were encouraged to think critically about the qualities employers value and how they can begin developing these attributes now.

The workshop also played a significant role in supporting students’ ‘Life After Laurus’ thinking. As part of the day, students explored the importance of financial planning, learning how budgeting, saving and informed decision-making can shape their future opportunities. They were guided to set personal and academic goals, reflect on their strengths and interests, and consider the wide range of study routes available after Year 11, including A levels, apprenticeships and vocational pathways.

Across the various activities, students were challenged to apply their learning to real-life situations, helping them understand the practical skills required to navigate life beyond school. By the end of the workshop, they had gained valuable insights into the world of work, a clearer sense of their future aspirations, and a stronger foundation for making successful transitions to the next stage of their education and ‘Life After Laurus’.
