As part of our Academic Enhancement & Aspiration curriculum, we were thrilled to take nearly 170 students on a day trip to the University of Liverpool on Wednesday 14th May.

The trip was an exciting opportunity for our students to experience university life first-hand and begin to visualise their future beyond school.

After arriving at the university in the morning, students were welcomed warmly by the university’s outreach team in the Eleanor Rathbone Lecture Theatre, which served as our base for the day.

The morning continued with a campus tour guided by current university undergraduates, giving our students the chance to explore the stunning grounds and facilities of one of the UK’s top universities.

From modern study spaces to historic buildings, a flight simulator and the Student Union, our students got a real feel for what university life might look like!

One of the highlights of the afternoon was the ‘Science Is Cool’ demonstration, where students were captivated by live experiments, including the dramatic effects of liquid nitrogen!

Some students even got the chance to take part as volunteers, bringing the science to life in an unforgettable way.

To round off the day, the group engaged in a lively Q&A session with current undergraduates and postgraduates, including those studying for Masters and PhDs.

They asked thoughtful questions covering everything from student societies and lecture formats to managing workload, budgeting and independence. The session offered valuable insights and sparked plenty of reflection and ambition.

Trips like these are a vital part of our commitment to broadening horizons and supporting our students to realise their aspirations. Whether our young people are considering university or exploring other pathways, experiences like these help them to make informed, ambitious choices.

We’re incredibly proud of how our students represented the school, and we look forward to offering more opportunities to explore aspirational pathways in the near future. Thank you to the University of Liverpool for having us!
