Three Laurus Ryecroft Sixth Form students had the opportunity of a lifetime last night, attending the official opening of Mott MacDonald’s impressive new office at ONE Piccadilly in Manchester.
The prestigious event, which featured a keynote speech from the Mayor of Greater Manchester, Andy Burnham, provided our students with invaluable access to industry professionals and insights into their future career paths.
About Mott MacDonald
Mott MacDonald is a multinational engineering consultancy that plans, maintains, and delivers large-scale infrastructure projects around the world. As the world’s largest employee-owned company, with a revenue of £2.5 billion, they are at the forefront of engineering innovation and sustainable development. Their expertise spans sectors including transport, energy, water, and built environment projects that shape communities globally.
A Night of Networking and Inspiration
As one of only two schools supported by Mott MacDonald for the Class of Your Own DEC award qualifications, Laurus Ryecroft continues to strengthen its commitment to providing students with real-world industry connections. The evening was carefully orchestrated to ensure our students — who are pursuing interests in Nuclear Engineering, Civil Engineering, and Biochemical Engineering — could engage meaningfully with professionals working at the cutting edge of their chosen fields.
Throughout the evening, students had the chance to speak with experts across various disciplines, including Social Value, Small Modular Reactors, Architecture, and Civil Engineering. These conversations provided invaluable insights into the diverse career pathways available within the engineering and construction sectors.
Meeting the Mayor
A highlight of the evening came when Mayor Andy Burnham took time to speak with all three students about their futures and their involvement in the DEC awards programme. His interest in the next generation of engineers, and his encouragement of their academic pursuits, left a lasting impression on our students.
Building Futures Together
This event exemplifies the strong partnership between Laurus Ryecroft Sixth Form and Mott MacDonald, and demonstrates our ongoing commitment to providing students with opportunities that extend far beyond the classroom. By connecting our students with industry leaders and giving them access to real professional environments, we are helping to shape the engineers, architects, and industry professionals of tomorrow.
We are incredibly grateful to Mott MacDonald for their continued support and for ensuring our students were so well looked after at this milestone event.
